Why Buy Local Anyway?
Within the structure of city, county, state and federal government, services cost the residents.
Whether it is water services, emergency services, road maintenance or a public library, the actual development, maintenance and building/staff require funds, not only for exchange of goods, like water, but also ongoing ready resources, like for road repairs. Storage facilities, offices, transportation...funds have to come from multiple sources.
In the State of Texas, a 6.25% sales tax is levied against products and services for purchases. This goes to support State of Texas government and services. Another 1% sales tax goes directly to an incorporated municipality (town, city, etc).
Currently, for the City of Collinsville, Texas additional .5% sales taxes are paid to fund (each) Industrial (Type 4A) and Economic (Type 4B) Development Corporations. These Boards then use these monies to fund projects, expenses and services to attract additional businesses, increase the quality of life for residents and provide job opportunities.
For a list of current and previously funded projects, see the What We Do/Projects page.
So when you buy your gas, pizza, or cappuccino locally, the additional 2% over the state tax comes back to fund you, your family, your neighborhood and your community.
Buy Local...and be part of Collinsville Economic Development!
